retro car party.

this party was all about cars.  instead of going with the cliche' race car theme, i decided to go with a retro car theme.  i loved the colors and feel of the "retro" party.  so let's get to it!

road signs led the guests to the backyard destination:

the dessert table was made up of layers of tires and glass.  i loved the levels.  so here is the tablescape:

the birthday boy's cake...and the result of my first time using fondant:

i found these awesome cardboard cutout boxes to hold all of the treats:

we had "stoplight cookies", car shaped marshmallows and chocolate dipped pretzels in the shape of cars:

the "fuel":

i was a terrible blogger and didn't get the food table post-hot dog grilling...

i thought having a chalkboard menu would add to the retro 50's feel to the party:

the party favors were car pez dispensers:

and the birthday boy in all his glory with his special t-shirt getting ready to blow out his candles:

felt shape t-shirt tutorial.

i saw a shirt like this on etsy and knew my son had to have one for his birthday.  it was $20.  that's insanely overpriced!  i knew i could make it for WAY less...how about making it for $5.20?  yes!  i found the gray t-shirt at H&M for $5, had the felt already, and bought the crochet thread at JoAnn Fabrics for $0.20.  then i made up the rest.  oh and you better believe that his sister will have a matching onesie that will involve pink and rhinestones...just sayin'.

i free-handed the stencil which is why it didn't come out perfect but I actually like that it didn't...gives the shirt some "personality" :)

Pennant Banner Tutorial.

i love these pennant banners and they are all over blog land.  i made up a REALLY simple way to create your  own!  To make 4 six-foot banners I used 4 different fabrics, a quarter of a yard each.

Step 1: Make a triangle  "stencil" using cardstock.

You can see another banner in my apples and pinecones post.

simple baby shower.

this was kind of a last minute baby shower but still turned out how i pictured it.  it was very simple yet bright and everyone had a great time.

tissue paper flower tutorial found here.  not hard at all!

the shower had a really modern feel to it.  i love the circles everywhere.

fresh flowers are like sticks--they make everything look better!  these wax flowers are my favorite.

i'm telling you, for your next party these homemade lollipops are the way to go!

i love miniature anything...

and this popcorn is to die for!  not only is it delish but so colorful as well.
